Visitor toolbar
An optional visitor toolbar for display and reading preferences, in English, Greek, Dutch and German. It helps visitors adapt a page; it does not fix your site’s code — that is what the assessment is for.
How it works
- Eight adjustment sets, named by what they do rather than by diagnosis: Less motion, Focus mode, Easier reading, Larger and clearer, Keyboard help, Calm and simple, Colour-free cues and Read aloud.
- Individual controls: text size, letter and word spacing, line height, alignment, a dyslexia-friendly font, contrast, saturation, colour-vision cues, reading guide, content width, highlighted links and headings, focus highlight, large cursor, keyboard navigation, stopped animations, paused media and read-aloud.
- Choices are stored in the visitor’s own browser.
Details
- The toolbar itself is keyboard-operable, labelled and focus-managed.
- Install with one script tag on any platform that lets you add code.
- A page-structure list lets visitors jump to headings, areas and forms.
- If you switch it on, visitors can report a barrier from the toolbar; it arrives in your Issue Register as a visitor report. A link to your accessibility statement can be shown too.
What it does not do
- It does not repair your site’s markup, and it does not make a site conform to any standard.
- Read-aloud uses the browser’s speech feature; it is not a screen reader.
